I will say that e-mailed Dr. John Kelly, I did receive a reply back witha profuse apology. However, I must say I don’t believe the guy!
you know, as a weight loss surgery patient AND a health care provider I can see this both ways. It’s insensitive, and I’m surprised it was published BUT you know a little lighthearted workplace humor is in order sometimes. My heavy patients are the hardest to work with on many levels for a lot of different reasons. Sometimes it has to do with a general attitude very obese people seem to have, and sometimes its just physics. I get it both ways
I received a quick apology from Dr. Kelly so I give him credit for that.
We should all go to his videos here on youtube and let him know what an ass he is!!! Thank you for posting this!!

I sent my thoughts directly to John Kelly. He issued me a reply within 12 hours with an appology. I am just as disappointed in the magazine for publishing it as I am in him for penning it and submitting for publishing. I would imagine he’s up to his neck in grief – and I would imagine that Penn is pressuring him too.
One last thing from what I mentioned below. What Dr. John Kelly IV MD ass hole. Even though he is entitled to freedom of speech. He is also going against the law discriminator against the obese. Obesity is considered to be a true medical disability. In this “dr” case he has not IQ. My surgeon was the same way but he was stupid enough to admit to not being a dr. The only way to stop it. is to hit them and the hospitals in the pocketbook.
Unfortunately there are so many A hole”doctor”. They don’t care about the patients that come to see them other than the money they make. I have heard these A holes within hearing range of their patients being the equivalent. What the hell is an othropedic surgeon during obesity surgery in the first place. He is in the only profession where he can graduate dead last and still practice medicine. He’s only in it for the money. Too many are. As long as he is making money he cont. to work. ;(.

I sent my email to the editor in chief. I asked if next we could have an article on how funny it is to operate on the elderly, people of color, or maybe cancer patients. I told him I am sure that John Kelly has some good tumor jokes.
What an idiot.
